Interior Design for Real Life: All About Haven & Hue Interior Design in Leawood, Kansas

When you walk into a beautifully designed home, you should feel something. Comfort, warmth, creativity — a sense that the space reflects the people who live there. That belief is what led Kelly Brucher, founder of Haven & Hue, to build a residential interior design studio focused on helping homes feel both beautiful and deeply livable.

Based in Leawood, Kansas, Haven & Hue serves homeowners throughout Leawood, Overland Park, Prairie Village, and the greater Kansas City area, offering interior design services that blend professional expertise with a thoughtful, personal approach. Kelly believes that the most meaningful spaces are not the ones designed simply to look perfect in photographs, but the ones designed for real life — homes where families gather, children play, and everyday moments unfold naturally.

Interior design has always been part of Kelly’s story. Growing up in Kansas City, she was surrounded by creativity and thoughtful design from an early age. Her father spent more than four decades working as an architect, and her grandmother was a painter, which meant conversations about space, light, and art were part of everyday life. That early exposure shaped Kelly’s understanding that the environments we live in influence how we feel, connect, and experience the world around us.

She later earned her Interior Design degree from the University of Kansas and spent more than a decade working in professional interior design, creating sophisticated environments for leading companies and organizations. During her time working with Herman Miller and G|M Business Interiors, Kelly designed high-end workplace environments throughout San Diego, gaining deep expertise in space planning, furniture design, materials, and how people interact with the spaces around them. While the scale of those projects was often large, the core lesson remained the same: thoughtful design can transform how people feel in a space.

Today, through Haven & Hue, Kelly brings that same professional design expertise to residential homes across the Kansas City area. Her philosophy centers around a simple but powerful idea — your home should feel like art that reflects your story.

Rather than designing homes that feel overly staged or untouchable, Kelly focuses on spaces that feel layered, personal, and lived in. Often, the process begins by helping homeowners see their existing space in a completely new way. Sometimes that means rethinking the layout of a room to improve flow and connection. Other times it means layering rugs, lighting, textiles, and artwork to bring warmth and dimension to a space that previously felt flat.

Many homeowners assume interior design requires starting over or purchasing entirely new furniture, but Haven & Hue often takes a more thoughtful approach. Kelly enjoys mixing new pieces with meaningful items clients already own, creating interiors that feel authentic rather than overly curated. In many cases, small adjustments in layout, color, or lighting can dramatically change the experience of a room.

This approach allows Haven & Hue to create homes that feel elevated while still supporting the rhythms of everyday life. From open-concept living rooms to cozy reading corners, each design decision is guided by how a family actually lives in their home.

As a Leawood resident and working mother of two, Kelly understands the balance families need between beauty and functionality. The homes she designs are meant to support real life — spaces where kids can build forts on the living room floor, friends gather around the kitchen island, and quiet moments can still feel inspiring.

Through Haven & Hue, Kelly offers a range of residential interior design services in Leawood and the Kansas City area, including room refreshes, furniture selection, space planning, and full-service design installations. Whether a client is settling into a new home, updating an existing space, or simply looking for a fresh perspective, the goal remains the same: creating interiors that feel personal, thoughtful, and designed for the people who live inside them.

At its heart, Haven & Hue is about helping people see their homes differently. Not just as places where life happens, but as spaces that support creativity, connection, and comfort every day.

Because the most beautiful homes are not the ones that look perfect.

They are the ones that truly feel like home.
